La Sape (short for Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes) is a sartorial subculture with roots in both the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo. Stemming from the colonial eras of Kinshasa and Brazzaville, la sape subverts colonial and European standards of dress and reclaims them to forge independent identities that combat the lowly stereotypes imposed on Congolese workers. La Sape is known for featuring flamboyant, colourful designs and bespoke tailoring, all being sported with the utmost confidence. It is a form of rebellion against typical class indicators, and an art form both men and women can participate in. The impact of sapeurs and sapeuses is felt globally, with their influence inspiring fashion designers, creating communities in major fashion cities, and leading to art and photography exhibits. The message of La Sape is to spread peace, community, and charisma in the face of adversity, using fashion as a tool to express oneself despite current political or economic hardships. The sets designed reflect this attitude and feature prints, cuts, and colours synonymous with La Sape: bold floral prints, matching suit sets, and pocket handkerchiefs.

The toub is a traditional garment from Sudan worn by women. It is a great symbol of elegance, rebellion and heritage with its intricate patterns, and embroidery styles. It consists of a 15 foot long single piece of cloth wrapped around the body and head, worn over a matching inner garment set. Different colours are associated with specific occasions: white for working class women and teachers, a symbol of purity and wisdom. Red for marriage and more colourful patterns for community gatherings and family events, a symbol of joy and wealth. Women also wear golden jewelry, which is associated with the Jirtig ceremony, the wedding ritual, with the headpiece being mostly worn by married women. But at the end, gold jewelry is also passed down through generations, preserving the culture, elegance, and strength of Sudanese history. Another example of Sudanese elegance and excellence is the Sudanese formal attire for men. It is traditionally white and worn with a matching turban and shawl. A symbol of sobriety and heritage, and also worn for important events. The core piece is the tunic called JALABIYA, the shawl that is worn over it and the EMMA, the turban. South Sudan has a rich history with expressions of beauty and adornments. Ranging from scarification tattoos, which vary from tribe to tribe, to mouth, lip and ear piercings and signature hair bleaching techniques. The faces we designed for this update were inspired by the Mundari tribe in Central Equatoria State, South Sudan. We drew inspiration from the Mundari men's and women’s inkless face tattoos, which are rooted in the tribe’s cattle culture. These tattoos feature raised scars, unlike decorative ink designs, and serve as cultural identifiers that distinguish them from neighbouring tribes. The design and shape of the Mundari women's and men’s tattoos is said to stem from their sacred cattle, the V-shaped design mimicking horns.

The traditional thobe dress for women is the soul of Palestinian culture. It consists of a long flowing robe decorated with intricate embroidery called Tatreez. It is the heart of Palestinian garments and varies between different regions. The Bethlehem Thobe, also called Malak, presents the most intricate patterns and is associated with wedding attire. The Ramallah Thobe is recognizable by its white fabric, red silk threads, and cypress motifs. The Gaza Thobe is strongly influenced by the city's coastal position. Strong bright contrasting colours, coastal designs, and flower patterns.

For men, the traditional attire consists of Qumbaz, a traditional long loose fitting garment with light decorations such as stripes, worn over pants called Sirwal. Both those garments were made of cotton or in the Qumbaz case also of Syrian silk. The Qumbaz is tied with a belt called Iqshat made of leather. This is more of an everyday / rural area attire. The headpiece, The Keffiyeh, is wrapped around the head. The Keffiyeh with its patterns represent the Palestinian territory: the fishnet represents the connection to the sea, the lines, the commercial routes and the olive leaves the importance of olive trees as a cultural and economic element. It's a symbol of strength and tradition of the Palestinian culture.

Navajo (Diné) fashion has a long, fascinating history of adaptation and resilience, with many events and colonial pressures shaping the contemporary Navajo style of dress. Pre-colonial Navajo fashion was highly utilitarian, relying on animal deer skins and yucca fibre. But the forced removal of the Navajo people from their homelands in the 1860s drastically changed Navajo life and reshaped traditional attire, causing a transition from historical deerskin garments to new textiles and designs stemming from resilience, trade and adaptation. The designed sets are inspired by contemporary Navajo (Diné) fashion commonly worn today, including squash-blossom necklaces, concho belts, colourful printed tiered skirts, and velvet blouses. The Navajo (Diné) Nation also has a rich history of textiles, designs incorporating rich colours and complex geometric patterns, and a history of preserving its heritage through storytelling. Navajo weave has been used to create dresses (notably the Biil dress), tapestries, blankets and saddle blankets. The impact of Navajo (Diné) and Native American fashion, as a whole, can be felt globally, with Western 'cowboy' aesthetics often drawing on and stemming from traditional Native attire and accessories: concho belts, turquoise jewellery, and more.

The Karabela is Haiti’s national traditional dress for women and is most commonly worn during cultural festivals, folkloric performances, holidays, and many other celebrations. The dress is often made from brightly colored madras fabric, a textile with roots in trade between the Caribbean, Africa, and South Asia, showing how even the material of the dress holds pride of the country's origin. The Karabela typically features a wide flowing skirt that allows freedom of movement during traditional dances. The garment symbolizes Haitian pride, cultural identity, and the blending of African and Caribbean influences that have shaped Haitian culture. Today, it remains an important representation of Haitian heritage and is frequently worn during events that celebrate national history and traditions.

The Tignon is a traditional headwrap worn by Haitian women. Its origins can be traced to African headwrapping traditions that were brought to the Americas. In Haiti, the Tignon is often paired with the Karabela and serves both practical and cultural purposes. Beyond being a decorative accessory, the headwrap symbolizes resilience, cultural continuity, and a connection to African ancestry. Different colors, fabrics, and wrapping styles may be used depending on the occasion, making the Tignon a versatile expression of Haitian cultural pride and identity. Traditional Haitian festival jewelry is known for its handcrafted designs and use of locally available materials such as beads, shells, wood, and metal. These pieces are commonly worn during cultural celebrations, festivals, and folkloric performances to complement traditional clothing like the Karabela. The jewelry often reflects Haiti’s artistic traditions and the creativity of local artisans. In addition to enhancing traditional attire, these accessories help preserve cultural customs and provide economic opportunities for Haitian craftspeople who continue to produce handmade jewelry using techniques passed down through generations. Sandal Jezikri are traditional handmade sandals that have long been associated with rural Haitian life. Historically, these sandals were valued for their durability, practicality, and affordability, making them suitable for everyday use in Haiti’s warm climate. Many versions are crafted by local artisans using leather or recycled materials, reflecting the resourcefulness and craftsmanship found within Haitian communities. Beyond their functional purpose, Sandal Jezikri represent self-sufficiency and the importance of traditional craftsmanship in Haitian culture, as with many other Haitian pieces, naturally sourced materials in combination with local craftsmanship go hand in hand. The Chapo Kouzen Zaka is a traditional straw hat associated with Kouzen Zaka, a deity in Haitian folklore and the Haitian Vodou tradition who is often regarded as the protector of farmers and agriculture. For many Haitians, he represents the strength and resilience of rural communities and serves as a reminder of the vital role that farmers play in supporting the nation and preserving its cultural traditions. The hat is commonly made from woven straw and reflects Haiti’s strong agricultural roots. It is often worn during cultural events, folkloric performances, and celebrations that honor rural life and traditional customs. The Chapo Kouzen Zaka symbolizes hard work, connection to the roots of the land, and respect for Haiti’s farming communities. As a cultural emblem, it highlights the important role agriculture has played in shaping Haitian history and identity.
